Yves Saint Laurent YSL Soft Blue Silk Hat, 1970s
Hats and other accessories were employed by Yves Saint Laurent to contextualize his runway shows. Each look was carefully curated from quite literally head-to-toe to ensure the most effective composed look was created. From fezzes to wide brim derby hats, Saint Laurent runways during the early decades were rife with a variety of colorful headwear.
This 1960s sky blue seamed hat is made from a dupioni silk in a simple high-domed style. The brim of the hat is ribbed with concentric ice-blue stitching and is fairly wide. Around the base of the hat is a thick band in the self fabric that creates a faux bow in the back. The pale color and the traditional style evoke a demure esteem. A light, elegant option for a calm day or early evening ensemble.
Brim: is 5 inches in front and tapers to 4 inches at the back
Crown height: 6 inches
Circumference: 23 inches
Lined in a similar blue silk, the interior also features a Tiffany blue grosgrain sweatband as well as the Yves Saint Laurent label. It is in excellent condition.
