Basha Gold
Yves Saint Laurent YSL Russian Collection Red suede Black Gold belt, 1970s
In 1976 Yves Saint Laurent debuted what has become known as his Russian collection. Incorporating silhouettes and styles for the lauded performance troupe the Ballet Ruses, Saint Laurent capitalizes on a folk aesthetic with vivid colors and craftsman detailing. Accessories were prominent in this collection, especially a series of leather or suede belts decorated with silk passementerie details and tassels.
This belt from the stated collection is made from a rich primary red suede that is bordered with passementerie braids of black and gold and is backed with a matte black leather. The unique rounded shape at the center of this YSL belt, aside from the striking color combination, is what gives it its folk charm. There, it is able to be tied with two black cords finished with black wooden spherical beads. The designed quality of this belt is sure to accentuate the waistline and add a creative dimension to dressy or formal looks.
