Yves Saint Laurent Russian Collection Quilted Trench Coat YSL 1976

$0

In 1959, Yves Saint Laurent was one of the first western couture designers to showcase a collection in the then Soviet Union while working as the creative director for the house of Dior. While there, Saint Laurent became enthralled with the culture and scenery. Glints of this Russian inspiration appeared slightly throughout his work only to be fully tapped in his 1976 so-called Russian Collection.

While the runway iterations donned piping and corduroy fabric, this Rive Gauche diffusion trench coat done in an olive quilted cotton fabric. It bears a column silhouette with a belt to define the waist and wide-cuffed sleeves that are set into flanges at the shoulder. A Mandarin collar and two rounded, chunky pockets at the hip complete the look.
