Yves Saint Laurent Runway Velvet Red & Green Embroidered Jacket, 1989
The 1980s and Yves Saint Laurent are an iconic pair. Capturing the 80s culture, YSL had a talent for designing for the everyday woman but also making sure that she stood out whether it be by a carefully crafted accessory or a simple pop of color. Worn by Angie Everhart and photographed by Author Elgort, this flawless 1989 Rive Gauche jacket was featured in campaigns and seen on that season’s runway.
Done in a luxurious black velvet, the jacket features serpentine-like embroidered spirals and crescents in deeply saturated shades of mint, hunter green, and crimson. Sophisticated and elegant, this formal jacket begins with a simple round neckline and long sleeves with three black buttons set in bound buttonholes at the back of each wrist. The padded shoulders provide structure while lending the jacket a distinctive 80’s feel that is further enhanced by the large black buttons set along the center front placket.
