Yves Saint Laurent Emerald Green and Gold Wood Disc Accent Earrings, 1980s
Yves Saint Laurent, though a French designer, was actually born in the African country of Algeria in 1936. Saint Laurent credits a lot of his inspiration to African attributes and during his life frequently incorporated elements such as materials or beading techniques in his design. Most emblematic of this influence was Saint Laurent’s 1967 African Collection.
Presumably, these earrings are inspired in part from this collection. These earrings feature a wooden disc with a beautifully visible grain suspended by four strands of forest green beads that are secured in a hammered golden bead. Where the earring attached to the ear, a presumably glass emerald green jewel set in gold contrasts the earth wooden disc.
Length: 4 inches
Width: 2 1/4 inches at center of wood disc.
These YSL earrings are in excellent condition, and because they are clip-ons anyone can enjoy them. On the back of the jewel setting “Yves Saint Laurent, Rive Gauche” is engraved on one of the earrings. High-quality vintage pieces like this are yours to live in and love while increasing in value every year. It’s never too soon to start collecting them, as an investment in your wardrobe—and in yourself.
