Yves Saint Laurent Champagne Ivory Top Handle Passementerie Bag YSL, 1990s
Yves Saint Laurent popularized the passementerie accessory style. The use of coiling and manipulating silk cording into a decorative accessory added an extra depth of craftsmanship and handiwork to his ensembles, keeping pace with the brand’s vision at the time. This bag is made from a champagne silk cording and rectangular ivory handles that may be a nod to the designer’s affinity for African elements.
The base of the bag is coiled into an elongated oval that leads to the walls of the bag made from multiple rows of different weights of cording which gives off a ribbed appearance. On either of the long sides, three bundles of cord secure the handles in place. With a charming craft style that is reminiscent of a basket, this passementerie bag is a fashionable play on an ancient item which makes for a very worldly accessory option.

Handle drop: 3.5 inches
