Yves Saint Laurent Black Beige Polka Dot Ruffle Jacket Top Skirt Set, YSL 1980s
In the 1980s, Yves Saint Laurent reached a new hallmark as one of the greatest designers of his time. Being recognized by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in a monographic show in 1983, YSL solidified his designs as coveted pieces of fashion mastery. Presumably from his spring 1984 collection, this jacket and skirt ensemble is made from a black-and-white polka dot silk chiffon.
The jacket frames the upper body with a gently angular neckline that comes to a point at the bust. Ruffles careen down the length of the jacket. Voluminous bishop sleeves accented with more ruffles complete the jacket’s flowing and flirtatious form.
The double-layered skirt starts at waist level as a wide border of ruffles sweeps from the left waist around the ankle length hem. Worn together, the skirt and the jacket provide an almost seamless combination making this a gorgeous ensemble to showcase movement, volume, and texture.
