Vintage 1920s Black White Silk Dot Magenta Pom Pom Draped Dress

$1,800

The cultural changes ushered in by the Roaring Twenties were reflected in the fashions of the time, which favored youthful and slender silhouettes free from restrictive shaping undergarments. Though it is an era often associated with Gatsbyesque decadence, many styles were inspired by a desire for simplicity and freedom, ranging from the somewhat androgynous dropped waist flapper dress to more romantic and feminine evening dresses.

This 1920’s dress, however, effortlessly evokes the laid-back glamor of the Jazz Age, needing no sequins to accomplish its diaphanous effect. Black silk printed with a uniform pattern of white dots makes up the body of the dress, with a plunging neckline meeting a sash belt that drapes down the front of the dress as an overlay piece. An insert of beige silk lifts the neckline, which works seamlessly with the other elements of the dress and offers a nice contrast to the black silk and chiffon.

Two rows of magenta pom-poms offer a pop of color while accentuating both sides of the V shape at the front and the sheer panel at the back of the bodice, pausing at the waist, and continuing down the front of the skirt. The sheer three-quarter length sleeves open to a small slit at the elbow bordered with magenta pom-poms on each side, with a second layer of chiffon creating a gentle flounce.

The lower half of the dress is a cascade of silk, with the asymmetric tulip-shaped underskirt reaching nearly to the ankles at the back and is cleverly overlaid with a panel of silk that reaches the knees at the front. A light and graceful classic, this dress is the perfect summer wardrobe addition for evenings out on the town.
