Valentino Silk Polka Dot Halter Top, 1990s
Known for the dramatic, feminine design aesthetic, couture designer Valentino creates soft, almost delicate garments with controlled color palettes. Drawing from both French and Italian design values, Valentino balances the ostentatious with fine craftsmanship.
As seen in this halter blouse presumably from the mid-to-late 90s, this blouse is made in silk chiffon with a vibrant polka dot print. Dots of periwinkle, vermilion, orange, and olive on a crisp yellow ground create a mid-century modern feel. The bodice is heavily ruched, distorting the print, and is wrapped in a swirling configuration giving the dress an intense sense of movement. From just under the bust, the chiffon falls to hip level with gentle flounces.
Size estimate: S/M
Waist: 28 inches
The top closes at centre back waist with an invisible zip and extensions from the ruched bodice can be tied around the back and neck. At the bust, the fabric is double layered and interlined for support while the rest is unlined.
In excellent, new condition, this upbeat blouse still has the original Bergdorf’s tag. High-quality vintage pieces like this are yours to live in and love while increasing in value every year. It’s never too soon to start collecting them, as an investment in your wardrobe—and in yourself.
