Tiziani by Karl Lagerfeld White Silk Black Floral Embroidered Swing Coat, 1960s

$0

Italian label Tiziani has somewhat unexpected roots. Started by Texan Evan Richards, Tiziani helped launch the career of design savant Karl Lagerfeld, and was worn by notables such as Elizabeth Taylor and American heiress Doris Duke. This silk jacket from Tiziani blends contemporary lines with European folk embroidery. Made in the early 1960s, this cropped swing coat echoes current trends in folk-inspired fashion.

The hand-set sleeves, which have skillfully rounded shoulder caps supported by light padding, are short and bell-shaped. They thoughtfully mimic the silhouette of the jacket, flaring out gracefully from the arm.

A rounded neckline connects with a hook at the top only, leaving the jacket to charmingly swing at hip length. The beading, embroidery, and silky rayon lining provide a satisfying weight to the jacket’s swing. During the 1960s, this piece was likely worn with long gloves, dark glasses, and bright lipstick. However, it is yours to contemporize with everything from tuxedo pants to denim jeans.
