Prada Shimmering Blue Silk Paillette Plunge Back Dress, 2012
Prada is one of the few design houses that successfully and consistently crafts collections that balance color, print, and texture. Whether it be fur or sequins, Prada is known for having imaginative inspirations that are not only beautiful to see but can be felt during wear.
Presumably from their 2011 collection which featured fish-scale paillette detailed garments that were showcased at the Met’s Manus x Machina exhibit including Prada’s outstanding 1920s sequined designs for the 2013 Great Gatsby film, this dress is made from hundreds of topaz paillettes stitched onto a powder blue yoryu.
Around the scoop neck, the armholes, and the hem, the lettuce-hemmed yoryu gives a lightness to the garment. The layered paillettes on top of the 1920s waif silhouette provide a glamorous shimmer in the light. On the back, this dress has a plunging low-back scoop neck that adds a sexy element to the otherwise soft color and detail of the dress. Needless to say, this dress is the perfect cocktail or party dress that is easy to wear and unavoidably eye-catching.
