Prada Sheer Black Silk Lip Grommet Skirt Museum Book Piece Rare, 2000

$0

Prada designs respect the classics. Crafting new styles around transitional silhouettes while drawing inspiration from hallmarks of historic fashion, the house breathes new life into the old with a bit of an edge. From the S/S 2000 collection that can be read as a take of early 20th century feminism, the collection drew inspiration from classics like Chanel and Schiaparelli.

Done in a rich, black georgette, this skirt transforms the soft hand and drape of the fabric into an edgy, powerful piece. Sitting low on the waist, the front of the skirt is decorated with a band of black eyelets with a row of screen-printed lip decals done in a greyscale and a hint of pink. Stitched pleats make up the base of the front skirt giving it a further rebel aura.

On the back, a yoke showcases the arrangement of eyelets while the lower skirt portion is plain. This combination allows for an asymmetric movement creating more drama in the front than back. With an against-the-grain style mixed with the tongue-in-cheek display of the lips, this skirt was aptly featured in the book Schiaparelli & Prada Impossible Conversations.
