Lanvin Haute Couture Gold Lame Top & Green Pink Peasant Skirt Ensemble, 1977

Lanvin is a fashion house that has undergone major transformations since its start in 1889. Unlike many other brands, Lanvin seemingly transforms its aesthetic to closely match the vision of the creative director at the time. Under the direction of Jules-Francois Crahay in the 1970s, the house of Lanvin boasted an aesthetic that drew from folk, bohemian, and craft inspirations.

In part on trend with the growing global fashion scene, Crahay’s design vision nonetheless created a distinct epoch in the rich history of Lanvin. In line with this style, this circa 1977 couture ensemble features a gold lamé tricot crop-top and a decadent silk maxi skirt of lustrous emerald and hot pink embellished with gold ribbon appliques.

The ribbons create a lattice design over the green and pink zig-zagged panels. At the ankle-length hem, the ribbons cordon off a wide border frieze with four-leaf clover appliques. The skirt is heavily gathered into a waistband giving it a bell silhouette and an intense voluminous sweep. The simplicity of the top with a shallow straight neckline balances this set. This opulent ensemble is bursting with character and could easily be styled as an evening, cocktail, or party ensemble.

Unlined, the top has moderate stretch as well as boned seams in order to provide a structured yet comfortable fit. Additionally, the spaghetti straps have additional length so they can be adjusted if needed. This top closes at centre back with a simple button placket (please note that the errors in fit pictured are simply due to the incorrect size of the mannequin).

The skirt is fully lined and closes at the side with handset snaps and a hook-and-eye finishing with a satin tie. This ensemble is in very good condition with light war to the waistband.
