Issey Miyake Sculptural Pleated Purple Sleeveless Top, 1990s
A trailblazing fashion artist, Issey Miyake is a highly conceptual designer. His fashion intrigues take artistic ideas and pushes them to their artistic limits. Showcasing his iconic pleats and penchant for extraordinary volumes, Miyake’s Spring/Summer 1995 collection was all about balance and motion.
Presumably from or inspired by this collection, this sculptural top is made from a vivid violet, micro-pleated polyester fabric. An undulating high neckline emerges from inwardly angled armholes. The high collar produces a regal yet modern ruff-like effect. From there the top is cut such that two ring-shaped tiers circle the body at the bust and at the waist. Certainly not your average tank-top, this Miyake garment is a bold wearable sculpture that can add a creative touch to a simple outfit.
