Issey Miyake Colorblock Woven Ribbon Skirt, 1990s

$2,200

Issey Miyake has a unique architectural aesthetic mixing concepts that typically would be avoided by most designers. Fine, micro-pleating, one of his favorites, is incorporated into nearly all of his designs. This skirt is fascinating as it is made from pleated satin ribbons of fuchsia, scarlet, red, burnt umber, cerulean, shamrock green, aubergine, black and lime.

The ribbons have been woven in order to create a checkerboard pattern all while gaining added texture and depth from the pleating. At just longer that a midi length, the skirt is slightly pegged allowing it to accentuate the hips while the thick verticals contrasting with the tiny pleats draw the eye upward giving the illusion of height.

Size estimate: XS/S

Waist: 24 inches

Hips: 32-34 inches

Length: 36 inches

Unlined, this skirt sits on the waist with a plain black waistband and closes at the side with a concealed zip. In excellent condition, this Miyake skirt has been professionally eco dry cleaned and pressed. High-quality vintage pieces like this are yours to live in and love while increasing in value every year. It’s never too soon to start collecting them, as an investment in your wardrobe—and in yourself.
