Hanae Mori Couture Silk Printed Maxi Skirt & Shawl Set, 1980s
With collections made of vibrant colors and mesmerizing prints, Hanae Mori’s work symbolizes what women can accomplish in the growing world of fashion. Her creative brilliance unified the cultural significance of both eastern and western worlds. And making her one of the only two Japanese women to have ever shared their work on Paris and New York runways.
This shawl and skirt set showcases the elegance and excitement that mark all of her designs. The garments are crafted from silk chiffon printed with geometric shapes, moons, and birds in hues of ocean blue, brown, pink, and crimson red. The multi-functional aspect of the vintage scarf allows it to be styled in many ways, including a shawl, wrapping it around the waist, or a halter top as featured above. This chic look is achieved simply by wrapping the silk fabric around the neck, over the bust, and tying it behind the back. And thus, leaving the midriff and back mostly bare and making it a captivating contrast once paired with the long ankle-length skirt.
Size estimate: Small
Skirt: Waist: 25.5 inches
(There is a hook at the waist that can be moved by a seamstress to gain an extra inch)

The silk maxi skirt is lined in blue rayon with a concealed zip and hook at the waistline and covered snaps hidden in the chiffon waistband. The condition is excellent with one tiny mark towards the bottom that gets lost in the drape.
The shawl is finished with hand-rolled edges and has a tiny hole in one of the yellow stars, which is not visible when worn.
