Gucci Red Hammered Silk Gown New with Tags Runway Fall 2018 New Tags

The late 2010s were epic for Gucci. Not only did the Italian luxury brand lean into a creative vision of eccentric elegance, but they also used this novel approach to showcase their artistic flair and dedication to quality craftsmanship. Known for his maximalist designs, Creative Director Alessandro Michele created a surreal universe for his Fall 2018 show.

Models holding replicas of their own heads, dragons, and snakes as accessories walked the runway in an austere operating room setting, causing viewers to draw parallels to the ever-popular Game of Thrones. Though Michele chose an operating room as “… a space that represents the creative act,” the choice was also symbolic of his desire to elevate Gucci to the realm of the mythic, to become part of the fabric of stories that stand the test of time. “Sometimes people think that fashion is just a good dress… but it’s not,” said Michele in an interview for Vogue. “It’s a bigger reflection of history and social change and very powerful things…In the end you need to sell, but it’s like a big fresco—and the fresco speaks to everybody.”

As seen as look #43 on that season’s runway, this fabulous red silk gown is certainly more than just a good dress. Done in a scarlet hammered silk that has a nice sheen, this dress is an opulent delight, evoking 80’s style glam with its padded shoulders and over-the-top ruffle that spirals along the front of the skirt. Beautifully draped throughout, the bodice features a plunging V neckline and blouson sleeves that reach the wrist with cropped gathered cuffs.
