Gucci Copper Silk Cut Out Dress Runway, 2005
Tom Ford’s success can be attributed to his keen ability to unapologetically push boundaries. Following the creative director’s departure from Gucci in 2004, the brand’s 2005 collection certainly held a mirror to the Ford era. Done in a silk-spandex blend this copper dress crisscrosses around the torso and reverts to a more standard dress design around the shoulders and hips.
The proportion of fit help to give the illusion of an hourglass shape. Diagonal seaming assists to balance to soft volume created by the wrapping giving it a dynamic feel. At the lower portion, mesh channels enrich the luminosity of the fabric while three-quarter sleeves tame the sexiness of the design. A bold pop of hot pink velvet is added to the collar that keeps the eye moving from top to bottom of this dress.
