Givenchy Riccardo Tisci Black Striped Tiered Feather Jacket, 2014
Riccardo Tisci revamped the normally structured, streamlined version of Givenchy by introducing a panoply of color and texture to the design aesthetic. An unconventional fusion of vibrant African colors and Bauhaus color blocking, the Pre-Fall 2014 collection can be described as a creative safari of the modern world through ensembles that evoked senses of artisanal crafts and high caliber tailoring.
From that collection, this eye-catching coat is made from tiers of plush ostrich feathers that crate a lush and voluminous silhouette. The feathers are in shades of caramel, ink black, and violet broken up by bands of clipped feathers of vibrant red, sapphire, and white. From a clean jewel neckline, the coat moves into a broad, rounded shoulder that falls into an interesting pagoda sleeve.
Ending right at the waist, this coat strikes a balance of proportion, color, nature, and modernity. While this is quite a boisterous piece, it is also quite versatile as a laying option to spice up a casual ensemble or as a way to make a splash at your next cocktail or evening event. It can be seen as part of look #11 from the 2014 photoshoot.
