Christian Lacroix Pink Print Silk Ruffle Dress S/S 1992

$2,800

Known for his opulent and theatrical designs, French designer Christian Lacroix launched his first Haute Couture collection in 1987. Drawing inspiration from history and folklore, his debut collection continues to resonate with contemporary artists. Named the “king of color” by Vogue in 1990, he often created striking color palettes that made his designs even more remarkable. Lacroix served as creative director for Pucci from 2002-2005, designed costumes for the Paris Opera Ballet, and partnered with Dries Van Noten in 2019 to critical acclaim.

His Spring 1992 collection featured an array of off-the-shoulder dresses with voluminous sleeves, bows, and ruffles, a perfect ode to the designer’s perspective on fashion: “I don’t believe in minimalism– you can find that everywhere.” From that collection, this beautiful dress is a fine example of Lacroix’s exquisite craftsmanship and love of color.

Done in a bright magenta silk featuring a floral print in shades of orange, white, yellow, black, and pale green, this dress is an exuberant and feminine embodiment of spring.

Size estimate: Small

Bust: 32 inches

Length: 37 inches

The bodice begins with an off-the-shoulder neckline that is framed by large ruffles that wrap around the back of the dress to create a regal collar. The voluminous, sheer sleeves extend past the wrists, giving this dress a dainty feeling. The skirt falls from an empire waistline– defined by two bows beneath the bust– to a mini length several inches above the knees, creating an airy silhouette.

The subtle high-low hem adds yet another layer of drama and emphasizes the cape-like design at the back of the dress, which falls in soft pleats from the ruching at the shoulders. A phenomenal addition to the discerning fashion lover’s wardrobe, this incredible Lacroix confection is the perfect choice for a summer wedding, evening soiree, or special occasion, and can easily be styled with statement heels and accessories.

This 1992 Christian Lacroix dress is partially lined at the bodice with a short magenta silk corset. In excellent condition, it has a concealed back zip closure. This dress has been cleansed with obsidian and sage to ensure that you are welcoming a bright new energy into your home, and has also been professionally eco dry cleaned and pressed. High-quality pieces like this are yours to live in and love while increasing in value every year. It’s never too soon to start collecting them, as an investment in your wardrobe—and in yourself.
