Christian Dior Demi-Couture Colorful Chevron Tailored Belted Dress, 1950s
Dior has always been a highly coveted designer. Along with several of his contemporaries, Dior represented style and fashion. Pieces with this label were made for the American market following his iconic 1947 New Look, when demand for Dior skyrocketed around the world and especially in the US.
The Christian Dior New York label is considered to be demi-couture from this period of Dior's history and the pieces are based on the Paris Haute Couture designs and were finished with the same standards as the Haute Couture pieces were. This mid-1950s dress is made from a structured fabric with a silky hand.
The dress features an exciting painted chevron motif in shades of orange, sap green, mauve, blush, mustard, and stone grey. The dress begins with a wide peter-pan collar that beautifully frames a small portion of the décolletage. The short-sleeved bodice is tailored around the bust and belted around the waist for additional fit.
Split at the side, the bodice also features a swing-style back. A simple knee-length pleated skirt finished the look. Feminine, fun, and classically 50s, this vintage Dior dress is multifunctional and is a shining example of easy-to-wear luxury.
