Christian Dior by Galliano Black Sheer Silk Sleeveless Dress

The house of Dior is known for its long legacy of refined and traditionally sophisticated couture. However, upon taking the reins as creative director, John Galliano introduced a never-before-seen edge with his hyper-deconstructionist styles and theatrical shows.

In the vein of his previous “hobo-chic” collection, Galliano’s early 2000s ready to wear lines featured a combination of baggy silhouettes and diaphanous fabrics that resulted in designs that were edgy yet whimsical. Presumably from the Fall/Winter 2000 collection, this slip dress is made from a series of black silk chiffon.

The dress begins with a moderately deep scoop neckline suspended by thin spaghetti straps. On the right, a one-shoulder feature that can also act as an off the shoulder detail showcases a series of flounces that continue sweeping across the dress culminating in the fluted hem.

A satin button closure on the side and a cowl back give this dress a sexy upscale mood. This is an excellent little black dress option for a night on the town or a cozy night in.
