Chanel Paris Byzance Wool Cashmere Gold Gripoix Button Sweater Dress, 2011
The house of Chanel is noted for its maintenance of the classics, and iconic fabrics. Headed by Karl Lagerfeld, the house continues to represent classic design while softly pushing the envelope of traditional charm and modern beauty. From the pre-fall 2011 collection inspired by the Byzantine empress Theodora, this striped wool cashmere sweater dress is done in striking yarns of rust, mulberry, deep indigo, antiqued gold, and umber that create the visual effects of a Byzantine mosaic.
The dress has a three-quarter sleeve and crew neck, while the front is layered to replicate a surplice. To the left side 5 gold gripoix buttons are sewn vertically to add additional textural dimension and contrast. With a flattering fit and beautifully curated colors, this sweater dress is pictured above on the 2011 runway.
