Basha Gold
1980s Zandra Rhodes Green Velvet Multicolored Print Tassel Coat
A quintessential designer in the 60s and 70s counter-culture movement, Zandra Rhodes’ style shaped in many ways the hippie and bohemian aesthetics. Working with feminine prints and silhouettes that paid homage to the Renaissance era, Rhodes’ success was widespread. Made in a deep green velvet, a paisley style motif fills the area of the coat with tones of scarlet, gold ochre, teal, and blue.
At the center the neckline plunges into a V and careens away in an inverted line after the angled closure. The shoulders have subtle squareness. These sharp features contrast the flamboyant colors and the plushness of the velvet fabric. At the waist, the coat shapes to the curve of the body while from the front closure two tassels of blue beads fall to the hem bringing out the blue undertones of the garment. Sharp lines and stunning color combinations are the perfect ingredients for a jaw-dropping cocktail or day-to-night look.
