1970s Halston Bamboo Sun Hat
Often regarded for his designs utilizing ultrasuede, Roy Halston is considered to be one of the quintessential American designers. Halston’s designs were made to be glamorous, without being gaudy. This refined design sense has allowed Halston’s garments, and accessories to emanate a certain timeless simplicity about them.
This 1970s, presumably bamboo straw, hat by Halston has a fairly wide brim, with a shallow domed crown. Although it is made of a mono-tonal light tan material, the weave technique of this hat creates interesting visual lines. From the top of the crown, the individual straws sweep out into a spiraling configuration interrupted by circular rows formed in the weaving. At the edge of the brim, the straw is finished by being woven into a braided band. A thin black ribbon emerges from tiny eyelets at the sides of the crown that also serve to create a dainty chinstrap that is tied.
Measurements:
Brim: 5.5 inches
Crown height: 3.5 inches
Diameter: 22 inches
Presumably made of bamboo straw, this hat is in excellent condition. This hat is created with an intriguing weave technique that reflects Halston’s demure fashion sensibilities.
