1960s Givenchy Unlabelled Black Taffeta Evening Jacket
Hubert de Givenchy designed with a classic French aesthetic that was reinterpreted through the modern wearer. His style was classically feminine and tailored resulting in garments that are exquisite conversations between the delicate and structure. Perhaps, the Givenchy look is not a look in and of itself in as far as it is embodied through the number of notable women he frequently dressed such as Audrey Hepburn or Jackie Kennedy.
Following the tailored yet feminine style, this 1960s evening coat is created from a rich black taffeta. The coat cocoons around the wearer to about knee level where a slightly ruffled trim is attached. Although the silhouette lacks fit, the trapeze shape doesn’t make the wearer look larger rather grander. A soft lapel completes the look. This design, though highly emblematic of Givenchy’s work, draws influence from the stylings of Balenciaga.
