Yves Saint Laurent Edition Soir Chiffon Evening Dress circa 2009
Throughout his lifetime, YSL managed to create wealth designs that continue to inspire to this day. From angular power suits to the soft drapes of elegant evening wear, YSL’s passion for design and creativity is evident through the quantity and quality of his garments.
In 2009, then creative director, Stefano Pilati, re-introduced the YSL “Edition Soir” line—a bonus capsule collection that was updated periodically with exclusive offerings. This collection drew inspiration from YSL’s original Soir evening lines and reimagined them with a modern twist.
Featuring billowing drapes in a stunning violet silk chiffon, this circa 2009 dress beautifully plays with elements of transparency and opacity. A moderate V-neckline scoops to bust level where it is met by an inverted U-shaped empire waist line. From here, a layered skirt of densely gathered chiffon flows down and forms a high-low bubble hem. On the back, the skirt is draped into two swags emphasizing the dimension in the fabric.
The dress also has all-in-one sleeves done in a single layer of fabric adding an additional softness to the design. Light and airy, this ethereal evening dress is easy to wear while exuding a stately charm.
