Wilardy Black Lucite Mother of Pearl and Gold Travel Destination Bag,1950s
Beginning in 1946, Wilardy is an American handbag brand specializing in small clutches and box bags made from their signature lucite. Family owned, Wilardy made its mark in the 1950s-60s with their innovative midcentury designs and skillful usage of their lucite material in fashions and other high-end home décor that was even installed in Jackie Kennedy’s White House. The brand quickly gained international acclaim as Wilardy lucite bags were cutting edge and definitely before their time on the trend spectrum.
This Wilardy black lucite rectangular bag is chic, having a version of this bag featured in Janice Berkson’s book Carry Me! 1950s Lucite Handbags. Outfitted with golden accents in the latches and piano hinge at the bottom, a classic style statement is made against the pitch black lucite indicative of the 1950s Hollywood glam aesthetic. On the front, five medallions backed with geometric mother-of-pearl shapes reading “London”, “Venice”, “Paris”, “Rome”, and “Lisbon” in a gold script are affixed. The travel reference aesthetic is classic and currently is on-trend making this bag a must-have.
